Setting Up Analytics & Search Tools for a Blogger / Blogspot Blog
You’ll usually want to connect three Google services to your Blogspot blog:
- Google Analytics 4 (GA4) — visitor statistics
- Google Search Console — search indexing & SEO monitoring
- Google AdSense (optional later) — monetisation
For now, here’s the clean setup process for Analytics and Search Console.
1. Create Google Analytics (GA4)
Go to:
https://analytics.google.com/
Steps
A. Create an Account
- Click Start measuring
- Account name example: Auspice Darer
- Leave sharing settings enabled unless you want stricter privacy
B. Create a Property
Property name example:
Auspice Darer Blog
- Choose your local timezone
- Select your currency (GBP if in Jersey/UK)
- Click Next
C. Business Details
- Choose an industry category such as:
- Arts & Entertainment
- Books & Literature
- Games
- Other
- Select your business size
D. Choose Objectives
- Examine user behaviour
- Measure engagement
- Understand traffic
Click Create.
2. Create a Data Stream
- Choose Web
- Enter your Blogspot URL
https://auspicedarer.blogspot.com
- Stream name example: Auspice Darer
- Click Create stream
3. Copy Your Measurement ID
You’ll now see something like:
G-XXXXXXXXXX
This is your GA4 Measurement ID.
4. Add Analytics to Blogger
Open:
https://www.blogger.com/
Steps
- Open your blog
- Go to Settings
- Find Google Analytics Measurement ID
- Paste your ID
- Save
Blogger handles the tracking code automatically.
5. Set Up Google Search Console
Go to:
https://search.google.com/search-console/about
Click Start now.
6. Add Your Blog Property
Select:
URL Prefix
Enter your exact Blogspot URL:
https://auspicedarer.blogspot.com
Click Continue.
7. Verify Ownership
Verification is often automatic if you use the same Google account for Blogger and Search Console.
If not:
- Choose the HTML tag method
- Copy the meta tag
- In Blogger go to:
Theme → Edit HTML
- Paste the tag inside the
<head>section - Save your template
- Return to Search Console and click Verify
8. Submit Your Sitemap
Inside Search Console:
- Go to Sitemaps
- Enter:
sitemap.xml
- Click Submit
Blogger automatically generates this sitemap.
9. Request Indexing
In Search Console:
- Use the search bar at the top
- Paste your homepage URL
- Click Request Indexing
Do this for:
- Your homepage
- Important posts
- Your About page
10. Enable Search Visibility in Blogger
In Blogger:
Settings → Privacy
Ensure:
Visible to search engines = ON
This is critical.
11. Add a Search Description (SEO)
In Blogger:
Settings → Meta tags
Enable Search Description.
Example:
Eclectic essays on gaming, books, history, politics, culture and digital life from a Jersey perspective.
Keep it under 150 characters.
12. What Happens Next?
Google will:
- Crawl your blog
- Index pages
- Start collecting analytics data
Typical timelines:
- Analytics: within hours
- Search Console indexing: 1–14 days
13. Things Worth Doing Early
Create Core Pages
- About
- Contact
- Archive / Categories
Use Labels Properly
Examples:
- Gaming
- Libertarianism
- History
- Books
- Jersey
- Technology
Custom Domain (Optional)
Later you can connect:
- .com
- .net
- .blog
